Overview:

Participate in an exciting and fulfilling voluntour opportunity in the Goa region of the beautiful country of India. You will be placed in a volunteer project that works in Women's Empowerment, Childcare, Teaching, School for People with Mental and Developmental Disabilities, Medical & Nursing*, or Beautification & Renovation*. You will be placed based on the program’s need for volunteers. We are unfortunately unable to take requests.

Location:

Goa attracts more travellers than any other location of India. Beautiful sandy beaches and the influence of Portuguese culture makes Goa a magnet for tourists. Young travelers specially find Goa interesting because of the vast array of adventurous activities it offers. The volunteer accommodation in Goa is located in South Goa near the Majorda Beach. This part of Goa is untouched by heavy tourist traffic and has a serene and peaceful atmosphere.

 

Day by Day Itinerary:

*Please note that this is a sample itinerary. All of the mentioned experiences will be included, but the dates and scheduling of these activities are subject to change.

Day 1 (Monday): Goa Airport Pick-Up

Upon your arrival at Goa Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to your volunteer house. Depending on your arrival time, you will have all your meals included. Enjoy the day at your leisure to get settled in. Overnight in Goa.

 

Day 2 (Tuesday): Welcome Meeting & Orientation (B/L/D)

Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation before starting with the project welcome meeting and an orientation about India and the program covering the following points:

  • India & its Culture
  • Accommodation Facilities
  • How to Do Volunteer Work
  • Project Activities
  • Cultural Responsibility
  • Personal Safety & Code of Conduct

Today you will also receive a Hindi Tutorial to make yourself familiar with the basics of the language. After lunch you will start preparing for your first day at your designated project – learn how to do your work, go through records of your project, and have a preparation meeting with your project executive. Overnight in Goa.

There are volunteering possibilities in 4 categories:

Day 3 (Wednesday): Yoga Session #1 - Volunteer Project - Food Prep & Tasting (B/L/D)

Today the program will start with a morning yoga session followed by an introductory visit to the volunteer project to start your volunteer work. Later, you will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare traditional Indian dishes and enjoy a traditional evening meal. Overnight in Goa.

 

Day 4 (Thursday): Yoga Session #2 - Volunteer Project - Dressing & Henna Workshop - Dinner with a Local Family (B/L/D)

Begin the day with your second Yoga Session before starting your volunteer work during the day as per the indicative schedule. In the afternoon, visit a local dressing and henna workshop, and in the evening have the opportunity to visit and have dinner with a local host family to learn about the culture and to taste delicious, traditional food. Overnight in Goa.

 

Day 5 (Friday): Volunteer Project (B/L/D)

Today you will volunteer according to your provided schedule and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Goa.

 

Day 6 (Saturday): South Goa Excursion (B)

Today you will depart for a one-night, two-day visit to picturesque South Goa. On your way, you'll get to visit Cabo de Rama Fort, one of the oldest and largest in Goa. The fort dates to ancient times when it was built by Hindu rulers but has since passed hands from Muslims, to the Portuguese, and English. After a short drive from the fort, you'll arrive at beautiful Paloem Beach and check in to your accommodation. Enjoy the leisure time to explore the beach. Overnight in South Goa.

 

Day 7 (Sunday): Palolem Beach - Goa Volunteer House (B/D)

After a delicious breakfast on the beach, enjoy the morning taking in some more of the Palolem white sand beaches and then transfer back to your volunteer accommodation for dinner and overnight in Goa.

 

Days 8 -12 (Monday to Friday): Volunteer Project (5B/5L/5D)

These days you will volunteer in the mornings and afternoons as per the indicated daily schedule. Overnight in Goa.

Typical Day of Volunteering:

07:30-08:30hrs: Breakfast at Volunteer Accommodation
09:00-12:30hrs: Project Work
12:30-13:30hrs: Packed Lunch at the Project Location
13:30-14:00hrs: Free Time/Relax
14:00-16:00hrs: Project Work
16:00-17:00hrs: Preparation Meeting/Lesson Planning for Next Day
17:00-17:30hrs: Tea/Coffee at Volunteer Accommodation
19:00-20:00hrs:  Dinner at Volunteer Accommodation

Day 13 (Saturday): End of Volunteer Program & North Goa Excursion (B)

Enjoy breakfast at the volunteer house, pack your bags, and say goodbye to your new friends. Today you will begin a trip to the North of Goa to do a sightseeing tour. First, visit Old Goa Church - Basilica of Bom Jesus which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier. Afterwards, you'll visit the local temple favoured by devoted Hindus and stop at Vagator Beach. This beach is famed for its seclusion and the imposing backdrop of Chapora Fort. In the afternoon you'll get to visit Anjuna Beach which is popular among foreigners and is well-known for its trance parties and hippie community. You'll end your day with a stop at Fort Aguada Candolim, a famous 17th Century fort and one of the most important in Goa. At the end of the day, return to your accommodation for rest. Overnight in North Goa.

 

Day 14 (Sunday): North Goa Excursion & Goa Airport Drop-off (B/L/D)

Today you will have the morning to enjoy at your leisure and then in the afternoon, you will return from North Goa to your accommodation. After dinner, you will have a transfer to the Goa Airport to catch your outbound flight. We hope you enjoyed this amazing experience and wish you safe travels ahead!

*Departure transfer is given from 20:00 hours until 10:00 hours next day.

Facilities at Volunteer Accommodation:
 
The Goa Volunteer house is situated in a safe and secure location just 5 km from the gorgeous Colva beach.  It has easy access to the nearest markets, shops & restaurants. This facility has a total of 24 nice and comfortable rooms, each with two beds, a wardrobe for your belongings, a fan, and an attached bathroom with hot shower. Each room has an attached balcony and there is an outside dining area with buffet-style service. The distance from Goa International Airport Dabolim to Idex house is about 19 km. Nice casinos, markets, and churches can be found in Panajim City which is about 35 km away from this house. It is 8km from the famous Margao City and 12 km from the Margao Railway Station.

ACCOMMODATION MANAGER: The accommodation manager acts as an administrator of the accommodation facility & is responsible for the safety and well-being of participants.

SUPPORT STAFF: The support staff includes a chef, a helper, a room cleaner, drivers, etc. The support staff is committed to creating an enjoyable and comfortable for the participants.

PROJECT EXECUTIVES: The project executives are the ground-handling coordinators on project sites. They accompany the participants while working on the projects.
