Your trip will come to an end with a transfer to the Bogota International Airport in time for your flight on Day 14.

Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Bogota Airport Pick-up

When you arrive at Bogota Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation for check-in and have the rest of the day at leisure to relax and taste some delicious Colombian food. Overnight in Bogota.

Day 2: Bogota Bicycle Tour (B)

After breakfast, explore Bogota by bike on a city tour. The tour starts with a ride through the historical La Candelaria neighbourhood of Bogota. You will pass several representative churches and squares and experience the different architectural styles of the old town. After visiting the enormous bullring, where toreros used to fight against furious bulls, explore some of the most beautiful parks of Bogota and taste a freshly made fruit juice in a typical Colombian fruit market before getting an insight of the rising graffiti scene of the city. After the tour, return to your accommodation and have the rest of the day to relax. Overnight in Bogota.

Day 3: Bogota to Manizales (B)

Make your way to the bus terminal today to catch your bus to Manizales, famous throughout Colombia for its numerous private and public universities. The city has a real European, small city feel to it, like being in Switzerland or the Alps. On arrival make your way to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day to stroll around the city on your own. Overnight in Manizales.

Day 4: Coffee Day Tour (B)

Today, you will be picked-up from your accommodation and transferred to Hacienda Venecia, a working coffee farm with 100 years of history and tradition, declared part of the cultural and landscape heritage by UNESCO in 2009. During the 3-hour tour, you will receive a detailed explanation about the processing of coffee, which includes learning the culture, history and varieties of coffee, watching the roasting process, experimenting with scents and flavors, walking through the coffee plantations and visiting the wet mill, where the coffee is washed, dried and packaged. You will also visit the main house gardens which hold 100 years of history, and are a symbol of the typical architecture of the region. After the tour, at around 15:00 hours, you will be transferred back to your accommodation in Manizales. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure and overnight.

*Please Note: The farm also offers an optional lunch at an extra cost.

Day 5: Manizales Free Day (B)

Enjoy one full free day in the beautiful city of Manizales. Discover its parks, colonial buildings, and the Caldas University's many museums and botanical garden. Tonight go out on your own to meet locals and say farewell to this beautiful town. Overnight in Manizales.

Day 6: Manizales to Ibague (B)

Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation before saying goodbye to this beautiful town. Today you will catch a bus to Ibague, the location of the volunteer project where you will be working over the next few days. Upon arrival you will be met by our representative to be taken to your volunteer house or homestay accommodation (depending on availability). Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, meeting your new hosts and housemates. Overnight in Ibague.

Days 7 to 11: Volunteer Project (5B/5L/5D)

Spend the next 5 days volunteering with children in the heart of Colombia’s coffee-growing region near Ibague. The local foundation supports children in the heart of Colombia’s remote coffee-growing region near Ibague. Depending on the needs of the children, the project supports sports activities, teaching or assisting with schoolwork, planning, doing hobbies or daily-life activities.  The program's goals are:
- Offering tutoring centers in Ibague that service students with extracurricular activities, sports, hobbies, etc.
- Providing school supplies and refreshments
- Creating alliances with 14 inter-institutional agreements to develop the community dining program.

Depending on the needs of the project, you will find yourself working with children, helping to coordinate sports activities, teaching or assisting with different subjects of schoolwork, planning, and doing hobbies or daily-life activities.

On the first day of the project you will receive a briefing about the volunteering to provide all the necessary information and to clear up any questions.

Typical Weekly Activities:

MONDAY Homework, Reading plan & Sports
TUESDAY Homework & Dance classes
WEDNESDAY Homework & English classes
THURSDAY Homework & Crafts sessions
FRIDAY Homework & Movie

Typical Daily Activities:

Your day will start at 7:00 am to prepare breakfast and get ready for the school morning session that starts at 8:00 am when the children arrive and runs until 11:00 am before lunch time. During this time you will help the children with their daily activities, help with lunch preparation, tidy up the classrooms, set up the cafeteria and supervise the children during lunch, and tidy up afterward. Once everything is in order, it is time to sit back with your fellow volunteers and workers to enjoy a well-deserved lunch.

The afternoon session starts at 14:00 hrs. and this is run by a coordinator that will give you directions depending on your personal preference and the needs of the project. The project encourages volunteers to be involved in the planning and implementing of activities for the children, but you will need to check project needs with the coordinator first.

At 17:00 hrs. you will assist the coordinator and the children in cleaning and organizing the classrooms, and then prepare snacks for the children before serving them and collecting the empty plates and cups at the end.

At 17:30 hrs. the children will return home and you are free to enjoy the rest of the day on your own or with your fellow volunteers before having dinner at the volunteer house.
