7 City Skylines Visualised inside their Signature Cocktail
The world’s most loved cities inspire a unique feeling through their architecture, surroundings and people. The most famous of these global capitals also bring that experience to a whole new level by also having their own signature drink.
Sitting back and sipping something indelibly linked to a certain place is one of the best ways to flood your imagination with happy thoughts of that spectacular location. To help see what we mean, Budget Direct have created this infographic, matching the spectacular skylines and emblematic drinks of some of the world’s favourite cities.
Here’s a taster for some of these iconic drinks:
Singapore Sling, Singapore
A hark back to the days of wisened old expats and bright-faced adventurers gathering in a far away location to plot success and tell their tales. Singapore’s experience of colonialism was more civil than most countries, and Raffles was the beating heart of its international community.
It was there that the now iconic Singapore Sling was invented among the hubbub of international trade and travel. Its fruity punch remains totally connected with the cosmopolitan nature of the city.
Manhattan, New York
New York holds some of the most important cultural institutions in the world but is also renowned for its hard-edged personality. What better drink then to symbolize the city than a blend of light and sweet vermouth with the heavier cut of rye whiskey.
Dating back to the 1870s, when New York first came into its own as a capital of the world, it has stood the test of time and grown in popularity as its founding city has grown up around it.
A stroll around Spain’s Barcelona is a true European delight. La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and the Arc de Triomf are just waypoints on an architectural pleasure cruise. To round it off there is something incomparable about sitting out on Las Ramblas or a beautiful little plaça sipping the light and fruity wine blend the country is famous for.
Caipirinha, Rio de Janeiro
There are few other drinks which can so perfectly capture the fun and zest of a city than having a caipirinha in Rio. A simple and lively concoction of Brazilian cachaça, brown sugar and lime, it is traditionally served in pitchers, perfect for sharing during the riotous fun of the city’s Carnival. It’s an excellent way to get into the samba mood of the city after a walk up to visit the famous Christ the Redeemer statue high above the city.
Spirit of Sydney, Sydney
One of the world’s most recognisable, diverse and stunning cities in the world, it’s no wonder how this sweet, and delicious cocktail got its name. Made with an original spirit named Vantage, made only in Australia from Tasmanian Mountain Pepperberries it’s unique and fresh flavour is perfect for a hot day in Sydney. And why not treat yourself by enjoying it at the Sydney Opera House bar, with glorious views of the city.
It’s safe to say that we are all familiar with the delicious bubbly goodness that is, Champagne. In fact, no celebration is complete without it. And every champagne in the world is made just outside of Paris, in a region called- Champagne! Stroll around the Arc de Triomphe or pop in to see the iconic Mona Lisa, and finish it of with a glass of bubbly.
Margarita, Mexico City
There is nothing quite like an ice cold margarita after a long day of navigating the concrete jungle, that is Mexico City. The key ingredients are tequila and lime juice- two things Mexico has in abundance. Find a rooftop cantina to take in the views of the city and maybe a mariachi to get truly into the Mexican culture!
Even if you won’t get to visit all of the amazing cities beautifully illustrated in the infographic, trying their signature drinks can be the next best thing. Sit back, take a sip, close your eyes and taste the spirit of the city.
