During the week you will also participate in a Sri Lankan Cooking Demonstration, where you will have the opportunity to taste delicious and traditional local  cuisine and see how it's made.

Day 6 (Saturday): Kandy Day Tour (B)

After breakfast you will have a scenic 2-hour transfer to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. This idyllic town, nestled into the hills, features popular tourist destinations like the Temple of Tooth, believed to contain the relic of one of Buddha’s teeth, the beautiful and lush Peradeniya Botanical Garden, and a gem museum where you can view impressive precious stones. After a full day of sightseeing in this charming city, we will check into a hotel for overnight in Kandy.

Day 7 (Sunday): Colombo Day Tour (B)

After breakfast we will transfer from Kandy back to Colombo, a port city with a rich colonial history and a vibrant diversity of races, religions, and cultures. It’s also a city of dichotomy and contradiction, with opulent mansions, groomed gardens, and sleek shopping centres next to slums and pollution-choked alleys. On our day tour of this bustling city, we will visit must-see spots such as the ancient Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya Temple, Viharamahadevi Park, Gangaramaya Temple, St. Lucia's Cathedral, Town Hall, and the Colombo Dutch Museum. After a full day of sightseeing you will be dropped off at the volunteer house for overnight.

Days 8-12 (Monday - Friday): Volunteer Project (5B/5L/5D)

This week you will be doing morning and afternoon volunteer work depending on the schedule of your project. During the week you will also get to enjoy an authentic homemade meal with a Sri Lankan family in their home and interact with them to get a taste of the local lifestyle.

Days 13-14 (Saturday-Sunday): Yala National Park & Colombo Airport Drop-Off (2B)

This morning after breakfast we will take a 5-hour drive to Southeast Sri Lanka for our visit to Yala National Park. Only one fifth of the vast reserve is open to the public, with the majority of the land completely protected. Yala is the ideal place, with a little bit of luck, to spot Sri Lanka’s “Big Four”: elephants, sloth bears, wild buffalo, and the elusive leopard. Use the weekend to explore this amazing natural paradise before returning to Colombo in the evening on Sunday for your Colombo airport drop-off anytime after 20:00 hrs, where your adventure comes to an end.

NOTE: Please dress conservatively during the weekend excursions, as you will be visiting several temples. Appropriate clothing should cover your shoulders and knees. We recommend wearing loose-fitting, lightweight clothing which will be respectful and cool in the hot climate. You may be denied access to the temples if your shoulders and knees are not covered.
