Enjoy a free day in Mexico City on Day 5 and end your trip on Day 6 as you check out from your accommodation.

Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Mexico City Welcome Meeting & Walking Tour

Bienvenidos! The day will start with a welcome meeting at 11:00hrs at your accommodation reception (please bring insurance details to share with your tour leader). Next go on a walking tour of the historic city center, where modernity meets ancient history - be sure to keep an eye out for any traditional day of the dead decorations! These lively streets are packed with beautiful architecture, chic and traditional restaurants, museums, and street food. Visit the famous Zocalo, the city’s huge central plaza to see the ancient Aztec ruins of Templo Mayor and the stunning Spanish architecture of the Metropolitan Cathedral. Walk past the beautiful Bellas Artes art museum, a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture and stop at the famous and exotic Mercado San Juan, where they sell everything from Spanish tapas to edible insects. Treat yourself to lunch with both traditional and adventurous options--ostrich burger, anyone? (lunch not included.) Overnight in Mexico City.

Day 2: Tepoztlan Temple Hike & Altar Making (B)

Today we will depart Mexico City in the morning (around 08:00hrs) and travel to the charming “magic town” (or “pueblo magico”) of Tepoztlan to explore the town and the nearby Aztec ruins with a local guide. Considered the birthplace of the Mesoamerican God Quetzalcoatl, this town is an important indigenous site and many people feel that it still holds a spiritual sacred energy, drawing many artists and mystics. The town is surrounded by majestic soaring cliffs and the stunning ruins are located at the top of one of these high-altitude lookouts. The hike to the top (about 1 hour) is very steep and can be quite challenging at this high altitude. But for adventurers, this hike is definitely well worth it. If you don’t feel up to it, you’re welcome to continue to explore this lovely town and its lively marketplace. You will also get to see the traditional process of building altars and/or creating the lamps that are central to the vibrant Day of the Dead festivities. You might even get to help out with the production and join in the following celebration! We will return to Mexico City in the early evening (around 18:00hrs) for overnight.

Day 3: Frida Kahlo & Anahuacalli Museum Tours (B)

Today we will take a day trip to the verdant and charming neighborhood of Coyoacan. Our first stop is the Museum Anahuacalli, built out of black volcanic stone and established by world-famous Mexican painter Diego Rivera, the husband of Frida Kahlo. Rivera was an avid collector of pre-hispanic art (he collected 60,000 pieces in his lifetime) and both he and Frida were fascinated with the subject of death in art. This makes Anahuacalli the perfect stop for Day of the Dead, and each year they organise different activities and workshops to celebrate the holiday. Next we will visit the Frida Kahlo museum in her famous and charming blue house where she resided for most of her life. The museum features art, artifacts, photographs, and personal items from Kahlo’s amazing life in Mexico. You will also have free time to visit the famous Coyoacan market and an optional evening of dinner and drinks in this hip and vibrant neighborhood. Overnight in Mexico City.

* Note: Optional Xochimilco Island of the Dolls Visit available for an additional cost

Day 4: Local Market Visit & Day of the Dead Festivities in Mixquic (B)

Today we will have a morning visit to Jamaica market, famous for its ornamental flowers. In addition to the impressive variety of flowers you will also get to see altars and even stop for lunch if you’re feeling peckish (not included). You will then return to your accommodation around midday. Later on in the afternoon we will visit the town of Mixquic, famous for its vibrant and energetic Day of the Dead festivities. A big part of Day of the Dead is the light-hearted festivities that families organise in the local cemeteries to spend time with their deceased loved ones. The ceremony starts in the afternoon when families colourfully decorate the graves of their loved ones and continues late into the night with parties, music, dancing, and of course a good dose of tequila. Immerse yourself in the spirit as this is sure to be a unique experience! Overnight in Mexico City.

Day 5: Mexico City Free Day (B)

Today you are free to enjoy the magnificent capital of Mexico City at you own leisure. It's been an action-packed few days - maybe you want to rest! If not, there are countless things on the menu to do in Mexico City. Check out Teotihuacan, the Anthropology Museum, Chapultepec Park, cruise down the canals of Xochimilco - these are just a few potential options!

That night, meet back up with your group and enjoy a night out at some of the hippest spots Mexico City has to offer! Don't forget to try some mezcal, a unique beverage derived from the agave plant. After your body can't take anymore, head back to your accommodations at your leisure. Overnight in Mexico City.

Day 6: Accommodation Check-Out (B)

Check out of your accommodation by 10:00hrs and say goodbye to your new friends over breakfast. Your unforgettable trip ends here. We wish you luck on your journey onward!
