Backpacking in Cambodia

Wedged between Thailand and Vietnam, Backpacking in Cambodia has exploded in recent years. With one of the amazing archaeological sites in the world in the form of Angkor Wat, a quaint and ever more popular capital, and an endearing local population, it’s no wonder Backpacking in Cambodia is become ever popular.

For many backpacking in Cambodia was a only a transit point between Thailand and Vietnam. Those that venture a bit further, quickly notice that Cambodia is a destination by its own right. One immediately thinks of Angkor Wat, the magnificent temple that were built at the height of the Khmer Empire. With a huge temple complex that stretches for miles, and intricate stone carvings, backpackers are drawn to it like a magnet. With a newly built international airport, Siem Reap is gaining in popularity.

Backpacking in Cambodia is also attractive due to the immense Ton Le Sap River where many backpackers visit local fishing villages. On the other side of the lake, lies the historic town of Battambang which backpackers often visit.

Other great destinations if you are backpacking in Cambodia is Sihanoukville. A quaint fishing village on the southern coast, there are awesome beaches to chill for a few days. Only 4 hours from Phnom Penh, this backpacking spot is also becoming popular with locals.
Backpacking in Cambodia wouldn’t be complete without Phnom Penh. Eternally linked to the horrors of the genocide by the Khmer Rouge, the capital has gone to great lengths to change its appearance. With a new boardwalk along the mighty Mekong River, Phnom Penh is quickly becoming a favourite backpacker hangout. Coupled with unbelievably friendly and humble people, backpacking in Cambodia has well and truly arrived.
