Inca Trail Peru
  Inca Trail Peru

There are many ways of reaching Machu Picchu, nicknamed the Lost City of the Incas. These include taking a train from Cusco and also hiking the Inca Trail Peru so as to arrive at one of the greatest archeological wonders in the world. However, what many visitors don't realize is that the Inca Trail Peru which is so popular today is in fact just a small component of a larger, more extensive Inca Trail Peru highway network that stretched from current Quito, Ecuador all the way down south to Santiago, Chile. Accordingly, if travelers have enough time, it is highly suggested to acquire a deeper understanding of this impressive Inca Trail Peru highway network that existed over 600 years in the past and of the Inca civilization overall. One way to try this is to travel overland, by foot, from Quito and inside Peru, while still landing at Machu Picchu in the end.

Quito is a good starting point because it was one of many endpoints of the aged Inca Trail Peru road system and was actually built on some Inca ruins when the city was founded in 1534. Today, it is a brilliantly beautiful and colorful capital city and well-known for its historic Old Town. There, visitors may enjoy themselves at a local cafe or restaurant while basking in the wonderous glory of the Andean peaks that lurk inside the city's background. In addition, the Plaza Grande can be a charming place to enjoy the city's colonial architecture. Particularly at night time, the white light in the street lamps completely illuminate the environment in order that it looks much like some sort of dream setting.

The next stop when you travel the old Inca Trail Peru road system is a city by the name of Cajamarca within Peru. The population is just slightly over 200, 000, which makes it just big enough for an urban feel but with the air of community such as in smaller towns. Cajamarca contains a strong Inca Trail Peru history, along with being known for its warm springs, also called Inca Trail Peru Bathing pools. In fact, some say it's here that the powerful Inca Empire finally fell to the Spanish conquistadors with the capture and slaying associated with the Inca emperor Atahualpa. Now, the city is a calming place to stroll along with the Plaza de Armas can be a place to soak in the ancient air or much more adventurous exploration.

From the place of Cajamarca, it is approximately 16 hours by tour bus to Lima, Peru's capital city; then, it is yet another 24 hour bus ride or one hour flight to Cusco, where most Machu Picchu travel packages along with the modern day Inca Trail Peru treks begin. Enjoy your 4-day or 2-day hike on the ruins of Machu Picchu, and learn to fully appreciate the significance that the Inca Trail Peru once had for the mighty Incas!

Trekking the Inca Trail Peru is in the bucket list for several adventure travelers and very rightly so, as it can be a breath-taking trek following ancient Incan footpaths on the magical Machu Picchu ruins.
